Talk with Akanji

Talk With Akanji is a show that explores the stories of everyday people, to find out what makes their lives extraordinary. It is inspired by the popular photo series; Humans of New York, because I genuinely enjoy people’s stories, and I’m a firm believer that everyone has had an experience worth sharing, to benefit others positively.

Introducing Sound Saturdays

This year, I’m all about doing. As such I’m starting a weekly cover video series called Sound Saturdays. I’ll be singing a variety of songs each week, with the goal of being consistent at creating content and hopefully building an audience for my music.

That being said, here’s a cover of Find a Way by Nico and Vinz ft Emmanuel Jal. I picked this song for the message of persistence and resilience is preaches.

Say ‘No’ and be OK with it

If you’re like me, you allow the needs of others to take precedence over yours. You are less likely to say ‘no’ even when necessary, for fear of hurting feelings or being ‘mean’. As I age, I’m learning that saying ‘no’ is an integral piece of personal growth.  This year, it’s one of my many goals.

Naturally, I dislike confrontation, uncomfortable conversations/situations, and being the bearer of any kind of bad news…

Final Week 2018: Find Comfort in Uncertainty

We’re officially in the last week of 2018! Where did the time go?! If you’re like me, you’re taking stock of the year; what worked, what didn’t, goals accomplished, unfulfilled resolutions, etc. It’s an integral part of preparing for the new year, to usher it in with awareness of where we are and where we’re going. Yet, as much as we plan, we can never be certain of what will be. Can there be comfort in that?

It’s 9 p.m. when she finally leaves. Annie watches as her friend Christine waves goodbye after a 3-hour visit. She smiles a closed-lipped smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. As much as she loves her dear friend, the last 2 hours have been mentally draining…

Legacy Live Session; Debut Single

On Friday June 29, I had my first ever headline show. I still can’t believe how surreal it felt to be on stage and feel so at home.

I’ll be releasing my first single called FOREVER in a few days and to commemorate that occasion, my team and I wanted a few key people and dear friends to hear it first…

Halfway Progress Check

20180719_154359_0001We’re half way through 2018 already! #timeflieswhenyourehavingfun.
Here are 7 things I’ve learned so far;

  1. Set Goals.. I know this is cliché but for me, it’s been a slow realization. I used to let the chips fall where they may, go with the flow. Nope, that doesn’t work. Make a list, check off accomplishments one by one. It’s not only a great motivation, but also very satisfying…

Don’t Cheat Yourself!

unknown-quote-encouraging-quote-sometimes-we-have-to-stop-being-scared-and-just-go-for-it-either-it-will-work-or-it-wont-thats-lifeMost of us spend an awful lot of time, pondering what fulfillment in life means. Usually, it is a bland routine we have come to endearingly hate. Our lives are spent wishing we could be living life to our fullest potential, yet we stay in draining jobs…

Choose Your Road

Greatness Unmasked

“Thank you,” she said as her lips curled up in a smile to mask her breaking heart. He smiled an accomplished smile, like he’d bought her the best Valentine’s Day present ever.

Be Your Own Hero

Self motivation is underestimated. Too often, we rely on others to push us where we need to be, or we look on the success of others to serve as our inspiration. While this is encouraged, the bulk of our accomplishments will come as a result of our personal dedication and mental readiness to tackle the big plans our dreams lay before us…
