We’re officially in the last week of 2018! Where did the time go?! If you’re like me, you’re taking stock of the year; what worked, what didn’t, goals accomplished, unfulfilled resolutions, etc. It’s an integral part of preparing for the new year, to usher it in with awareness of where we are and where we’re going. Yet, as much as we plan, we can never be certain of what will be. Can there be comfort in that?
When I made my vision board last year, I did so knowing I have no control over how my year will turn out. I spoke my dreams into fate, worked as hard as I could and hoped the chips would fall where I wanted. Ofcourse not everything happenned according to plan.
Part of journeying through this life is not knowing what tomorrow will come bearing. You’ll often hear people say the best things in life take us by surprise. Even the ones we can’t find the good in. Sometimes, it takes reflecting on our progress to see how even the unfortunate events in our lives were vehicles for positive change and growth.
What does this mean? It means we plan. Success they say is when opportunity meets preparation. So, take a moment this week – not only to look back at your year, but also to plan for next year. Is your goal to start a business? Do you dream of plane tickets and exciting adventures? Is it time to get that degree? Are you looking to fall in love? Whatever it is, you’ll need to work towards making it a reality. Take your success in your hands and strive for the best you possible.
Most importantly, find comfort in uncertainty. Life will happen. Remember; the things that matter aren’t your vision boards or plans and projects. First we must live, we must love and we must seek happiness in/for ourselves and in/for others. Don’t plan your perfect life but forget to live it fully. So, when life throws you lemons, be sure to make some tasty lemonade.
